Torre dei Donati – Florence

When You book a guided tour in Florence, with us You’ll realize  how beautiful and magic this town is.

The Tower of Donati is one of the ancient towers of the historical center of Florence, located in Via del Corso to the red numbers 31-33. This tower has a  classic rectangular plan included in the curtain of the buildings along the street. The Tower stands for filaretto in stone and some typical elements of the  tower-home like holes said “pontaie”, where once were part of the wooden beams that made up the scaffolding. On the tower there is a plaque which  commemorates the end of Corso Donati. Nearby there are other towers of the powerful Donati family, as so-called towers of Corso Donati, but in the same area
there are also the towers of the Cerchi, the rival family of the Donati. It was the envy of those who had the highest tower to light the rivalry between the two families which resulted in bloody fights between whites and blacks Guelph, sung by Dante’s Divine Comedy. Just to the Alighieri family belonged some  houses that are on the patio on which contemplates the back of the tower of the Donati. To physically divide the homes of Cerchi from that of the Donati, when the fighting between the factions grew more bitter (coming to threaten to break  through the walls at night to attack the hated neighbors), the city council decided to cut a dead-bearing, the so called Scandal Lane.
